Welcome to FunSail! We invite you to browse through our web pages. Sailing is a sport, a hobby, a pastime and a wonderfully absorbing experience. Sailing always challenges your own abilities and knowledge. The more you learn - the more you know that there is to learn. Sailing provides a feeling of being free and one with nature. A good breeze and a well sailed yacht provides unlimited power with no man made noise - just the synchronous sound of the sea as it passes by your vessel. Sailing is a great escape from the mundane routine of a normal working life - you have no time to think of anything else when you are sailing - the magic of it overcomes all other thoughts!
Company ProfileFunSail's Beginnings - FunSail was founded by Barry Barnes in 1999 in Sydney. In 2002 Barry moved the sailing school to Mooloolaba on the magnificent Sunshine Coast of South East Queensland. Since mid 2002, FunSail has successfully introduced hundreds of people from all walks of life and all ages to sailing in Queensland. FunSail is owned and operated by Barry Barnes who holds Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training, Master Class V (Sail) and Yachting Australia YachtMaster Offshore Instructor. Barry has been sailing for 22 years, cruising and racing along the East Australian Coast. Prior to creating FunSail Barry operated his own businesses involved in the IT and Accounting Solutions area. Prior to owning and operating his own businesses Barry trained and worked in the engineering side of telecommunications, television and radio broadcasting.
Competency Based TrainingThe state representative body for Yachting Australia and the peak sailing organisation in Queensland is Yachting Queensland (YQ). YQ is recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for the delivery of a range of nationally accredited sailing courses. Having met the exacting standards required by YQ to deliver these courses, FunSail has signed an agreement to conduct these and other relevant sailing courses submitted for accreditation as they become available through YQ as the RTO. The quality of these Competency Based Training Courses is assured by the Federal Australian government Department of Education Science and Training (DEST). We offer flexible training - We are very flexible in how our training courses are delivered. We start with a discussion of your training needs and goals and assessment of your current competencies. We then structure a training and coaching program tailored to suit your needs. We do our best to fit the training into the time slots that you have available and to provide just the right mix of day sails and sailing passages from a two day weekend to much longer living on board our beautiful sail training vessel Sofala to suit your schedule. At FunSail no one fails - you are either competent in a particular task or not yet competent. Each individual throughout his or her life has developed unique methods of learning. For some this means reading the right book; for others attending a classroom for theory is just what they want and for others still, the preferred method of learning is by doing in preference to studying books. We work at your pace to help you become competent at every step of the way in each course. We help you to become competent by focusing on delivery of the training in a way that exactly suits your preferred style of learning. 100% Australian - All the sail training courses we offer are 100% Australian. We are a Yachting Australia (YA) Recognised Training Establishment (RTE). The Sail Training Courses We Offer - At FunSail we offer quality sail training for everyone from beginners to those wishing to attain their YachtMaster Certificate. Our sail training is delivered in a flexible manner to suit your requirements. If you would like to try sailing without a long term commitment then try our 'Taste of Sailing' 3 hour course which is available from as little as $99 for 3 hours. A Taste of Sailing comprises the first 3 hours of Yachting Australia's Introductory Certificate Course. You can then complete the course and receive a certificate by signing up for a further 5 hours of sail training. You might then choose to progress to our Competent Crew Course. Having achieved the Competent Crew Certificate you can then undertake the shore based Coastal Navigation course followed by the Inshore Skipper Course and the Coastal Skipper course. The next step is to sign up for our YachtMaster course. All of these courses can be delivered during day sails from Mooloolaba. However, we find that most students like the idea of our sailing adventure trips which are now becoming a very popular means of delivering sail training. You can sail with us to beautiful anchorages along the Coral Coast which can only be accessed by boats, living on board our beautiful and traditional sail training vessel 'Sofala'. Full details of our sailing adventures to Moreton Bay, Fraser Island, the Great Sandy Straits and on to The Whitsundays can be found by browsing these pages!
