Overview

This one day course is conducted on board our beautiful 37 foot sail training vessel 'Sofala'. All safety equipment, including the latest technology in inflatable life jackets are provided. You should wear comfortable clothes which allow freedom of movement and white soled shoes such as inexpensive tennis shoes or sailing shoes. Bring your own lunch and non-alcoholic drink.

A legionnaire's style cap with a string attached is ideal to keep the sun off your face. It is also a good idea to bring a warm top in the winter months. Class sizes are limited to five students. Following a safety briefing Sofala proceeds out through the Mooloolah River entrance to the magnificent Coral sea. Basic sail theory is explained and every student is given the opportunity to steer, trim the sails and generally have a fun time.

Depending upon the prevailing wind, we might sail north past Coolum to spectacular Laguna Bay at Noosa before returning to Mooloolaba. Alternatively we sail south past Caloundra to the entrance to Moreton Bay, taking in the amazing view from the sea of the Glasshouse Mountains.

Wildlife abounds along this coast. Dolphin sightings are frequent all year round. Whales can be seen during their migration north in the early winter months and again on their way back to the DESTrctic just before spring. Turtles, schools of Tuna and other fish species are a common sight. Birdlife abounds all year round.
