FunSail's 2005/2006 Summer YachtMaster Program - Thursday, January 12, 2006 (and other dates upon request) Mooloolaba to Moreton Bay & return - The program commences with the Competent Crew Course. This course provides practical skills in crewing, steering and navigation. We depart Mooloolaba on the Thursday morning following a comprehensive safety briefing. The cost is $1,320 plus provisions and text books. Friday, January 20, 2006 (and on demand) - The YachtMaster Program continues with a 5 day sea voyage north to The Great Sandy Straits and a circumnavigation of Fraser Island, including two overnight non-stop legs. This part of the program provides you with the practical skills to take charge of a sailing vessel and manage crew; boat handling, man overboard recovery, berthing and anchoring. It includes all the elements of the Yachting Australia Inshore Skipper Course. Cost is $1,320 plus provisions. Monday night, February 6, 2006 (also available by correspondence) - YachtMaster training continues with the start of the Yachting Australia Coastal Navigation Course. This shore based theory course equips you with the knowledge and means of navigating a recreational or commercial vessel along coastal waterways. The course runs for 3 hours on Monday and Thursday nights for 6 weeks. A practical assessment is then conducted on board our sail training vessel Sofala during a voyage of up to 8 hours. Cost $1,452 plus text books. Friday, April 28, 2006 (and other dates through the winter months) - The highlight of the YachtMaster training program is a return trip to The Whitsundays. This voyage will take from 10 to 15 days. This voyage give you the opportunity to build upon your seamanship and sailing skills in a variety of conditions. It also provides the opportunity to demonstrate your competencies towards a positive YachtMaster assessment. During this voyage you will receive all the elements of training for the Coastal Skipper and YachtMaster Courses. The cost is $2,640 plus provisions. No one fails - Your are assessed as either Competent or Not Yet Competent. To be assessed as Competent you have to provide sufficient evidence of your competencies. If you and the instructor agree that you are not yet competent then it is simply a matter of working together on a personal training program to build up your skills and knowledge where needed. You will then be re-assessed when you are ready. The cost of additional training and assessment on a one-on-one basis is $66 per hour.
