Sofala is a very traditional masthead sloop of timber construction. She was launched in Auckland, New Zealand in 1981 and has been extensively cruised around the Pacific Ocean. Sister ships have sailed from New Zealand to the UK and back.

Sofala is fully equipped to Yachting Australia Category 2 safety standards and is registered as a commercial vessel under USL class 2B (sail training up to 100 nautical miles from the coast) for 6 persons and under USL class 2D (sail training in partially smooth waters) for 8 persons.

We have just completed a major external refit to her. New teak decks, complete external repaint and new mast and rigging.

Her construction is triple diagonal NZ Kauri planks with fibreglass sheathing over the hull to provide a watertight membrane.

She was designed by the highly respected Wilson Brothers in New Zealand who also supervised the construction.

The interior fit-out is mostly kauri and teak. She can sleep 6 people in comfort and has all the mod cons including a pressurised hot and cold water system, gas stove and oven and spacious saloon area.

Sofala is well equipped with the latest in RADAR, GPS navigator, Wind Instruments and communications equipment.

The following picture gallery gives you an idea of the quality and workmanship in the vessel. Left click on any image to see a full sized picture -
